The HERS Institute at Wellesley College draws upon over 35 years of experience in preparing women faculty and administrators for leadership roles in higher education.
The HERS Institute at Wellesley College takes place just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, with sessions held on the picturesque Wellesley College campus as well as at The Verve Crowne Plaza – Natick hotel in nearby Natick, MA. Working together in four, three-day sessions, during the academic year, participants share an intense, interactive curriculum designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed for advancing as leaders across all institutional types.

Accommodations & Meals
Because the HERS Institute at Wellesley College sessions take place over multiple weekends during the course of the academic year, we are not able to offer dormitory accommodations at Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. HERS Wellesley participants are responsible for securing – and paying for – their accommodations for each session. For your convenience, HERS reserves blocks of discounted rooms at The Verve Crowne Plaza – Natick for each session. These rooms are released two weeks prior to each session, and thus, we encourage participants to reserve rooms early to take advantage of the discounted rate.
Breakfasts are typically included in the hotel rate package and most of the other meals, including coffee and other beverages, are included in the HERS Institute tuition. Food allergies and other meal accommodations are available and addressed prior to participants’ arrival at the Institute.
- HERS will not pay for participants’ accommodations for early arrivals or late departures.
- Wellesley College is smoke-free in all academic and administrative buildings on campus.
Transportation & Parking

For participants staying at the select hotel, complimentary transportation will be provided from the hotel to the Wellesley College campus, as well as to Boston’s Logan Airport upon the close of each session on Saturdays.
If participants commute via car, free parking is available at the select hotel as well as on the Wellesley College campus. Many participants who fly into Boston’s Logan Airport share transportation into Wellesley. Further instructions are provided to participants prior to each session on how HERS can assist in organizing ride sharing.
Many participants bring laptops and/or tablets to each session. Wireless Internet access is available on the Wellesley campus as well as throughout the select hotel. Prior to arrival at the Institute, please make sure that your device is configured for wireless access.
HERS respectfully requests that all cell phones be silenced during Institute sessions and activities.
Local Information & Recreation
The Wellesley College campus is 12 miles (approximately 40 minutes) from Boston, one of the most prominent, historical destinations in the Northeast. Wellesley – the town – is a quintessential Boston suburb with beautiful neighborhoods, independent shops, cafes, and entertainment.
Many Wellesley Institute participants utilize the concierge staff at the select hotel to answer questions about the area including local attractions, nearby stores, and alternative transportation options.
Participants staying at the select hotel will have access to the hotel’s recreational facilities. Additionally, many participants enjoy strolling around the private lake and through groves of conifers and hardwoods nestled on the Wellesley campus.
The HERS Wellesley Institute is separated into three, three-four day sessions during the academic year. The sessions take place in October, November, and March. Each session begins on Thursday morning and concludes on Saturday afternoon. Once participants have been accepted into the Wellesley Institute, detailed schedules are distributed to the respective cohort
Packing Checklist Summary
Generally, dress is informal during the Institute; however, please bring business or business casual attire for the opening/closing events and the group photo. We encourage participants to be comfortable and mindful of fluctuations in weather regarding dress for each of the four sessions. The select hotel has an on-site fitness center.
